Villa Puri Naga Toya
The Dramatic Uniqueness of Puri Naga Toya. A Mountain Retreat. Located 35 minutes Northwest of Ubud - Bali, Indonesia. The view from this villa is one of Bali’s best. It overlooks the mysterious Batu Karu mountain range and the Sacred Ayung River. The house has been featured in several international magazines and books – and can be seen on websites such as Asian Tropical Homes, in Dec 2006 issue (look up Royal and Pamela Rowe-Kintamani).
Owned by a successful hotelier and working in Asia, both Royal and Pamela enjoyed the pleasures of…ancient inspirations melded with urbane sensibilities, and built an oriental pleasure-building; an oriental pavilion to be designed and, carefully situated within their landscaped surroundings.
The area of Buahan, in the central part of Bali, is one of the many scenic regions of Bali. Its fantastically shaped volcanic hills and meandering rivers have been celebrated by painters and poets for centuries. It was here that they created the first “Chinoiserie”style villa in Bali inspired by the “ interpretations” of oriental architecture – a very different matter conceived between the last years of the seventeenth century and the middle of the nineteenth.
This five star, Bali luxurious residence is available for short term letting to anyone looking for an elegant home filled with Asian antiques. Puri Naga Toya is the perfect romantic getaway and shares the location with some of the world’s most exclusive boutique resorts – matching all in luxury and privacy whilst affording you all the financial advantages of ” a place like home”.
It is the perfect place to relax with your family or colleagues. Enjoy spacious living and dining areas which blend into the lush tropical surroundingsl. Puri Naga Toya can be rented in its entirety for weddings, corporate meetings and other functions.
The villa is located just a short distance from the Hanging Garden Resort, and is famous for its stunning scenery. Puri Naga Toya is fully equipped with the latest amenities and is prepared to show you a “place like home in Bali”.
Design Idea
The design concept is of a Balinese architecture with touches of other “Oriental” components brought together by the fantastic trompe l’oeil paintings representative of Portugal done by Mayriel Luke and her team.
The villa is a two story 450 square meter building – It is a traditional Balinese structure with rural Chinese and Thai architectural influences. The roof is clad of iron wood shingles from Kalimantan and the exterior walls are partially covered by stone.
An opulent home surrounded by steep cliffs that echo the rushing waters of Ayung River, the compound consists of three separate structures connected by stone paths. Carefully positioned in the back garden sits an “an oriental pavilion”, a natural stone swimming pool and water lily ponds working together with the natural contours of the landscape. Together, the elements of this landscape create a natural grace.
This luxury home was built with inspiration from Tze. Strong emphasis was placed on the design complying with important feng shui principles. Feng shui is the ancient Chinese system of design that takes into account the four elemental energies and the relationship to a home in order to create harmony, wealth and tranquility.
To this end we have three of the basic requirements in our property as well as one of the best views of any private residence in Bali :
1. Water in front of the house
2. Hills behind the house
3. House built atop the "dragon’s back" or on a gentle slope
Touring the house you can see that all of these basic principles have been observed. Every day is paradise in fresh mountain air. You will enjoy spring water to drink, bath and swim in.
Functionality was not forgotten amid this heady artistic creation. According to the Chinese principles, water represents well being, so to have water slowly meandering through your Chinois gardens is symbolically akin to health and prosperity flowing into your holiday.
Puri Naga Toya has also been featured in Barbara Walker’s book, "Gathering Places: Balinese Architecture - A Spiritual and Spatial Orientation", and several magazines throughout Asia, Japan and the Unites States.
Accommodation
Puri Naga Toya represents a light and unobtrusive feeling. It is more about personalized comfort and design than it is about a fancy address, cavernous rooms and “look-but- don’t-touch” furniture. Each room has its own individual beauty, which agrees with people who care enormously about little things. Quality counts - but not at the expense of a warm and human atmosphere. The rooms are intentionally inviting so that you can get know them a little better.
The entrance hall and dining room walls are decorated with a beautiful tromp l’oiel Daido painting from Sentra and Lisbon. The floors are painted with realistic terracotta and black tiles such as those you would see in the Iberian Peninsula. The furniture in this room includes handsome primitive pieces, and the art is all done by famous Indonesian artists.

2nd PAVILLION
The Living Room: décor is simple and reminiscent of the style favored by old plantation bungalows. The antique furniture in this room is actually between 30 and 90 years old, and can be classified into four genres. “Primitive style”, Javanese style, European style and the Chinese or “Straights” style, largely influenced by the Chinese merchants of the colonial times.
Second Bedroom (upstairs) - A room with a view: This bedroom is octagonal in shape and is the ultimate honeymoon hideaway featuring views of mountains, rice paddies and the Sacred Ayung River valleys below. No longer visible due to the tall trees, is the famous mountain, Mt. Aging on the other side of the valley.
